As Heard In Stars Hallow
I really do live in Florida's version of Gilmore Girl's Star's Hallow (see the post about the contents of a minivan a few posts back if you do not believe me!).
The stuff that goes on is weirder than Kirk, Laney, Miss Patty, et all could even dream up.
This past weekend I spent with my grandparents and we went to a silent auction at her church. The below actually did happen:
Someone DONATED a USED cremation urn and in turn, someone BOUGHT it.
Fact truly is stranger than fiction. Wouldn't you love to have about 5 minutes inside the mind of the donor and the buyer to see their thought process on why it was logical to do what they did...!

Chuck Bass One Liner of the Week
QueenBeeSwain and I have a standing text date on Monday nights to dish it all out during Gossip Girl. We have a particular affinity for Chuck's one liners; one of our favorites was when he was talking about the "talents" of a particular date, "She's a synchronized swimmer.... She can hold her breath for 5 minutes."
That CB is a rogue and tonight's CB One Liner of the Week is:
"I never realized how many sex puns you could make from 'Chuck Bass'."
So it wasn't from that silver tongued rogue, but it is kind of true.
Also, what was up with how Bad Uncle Jack acted like taking meth was akin to having 1 too many cookies?

I’ve been the worst blogger ever! I must ask my readers, few as you are, to forgive me once again!
To state the obvious, it’s January: the time for new beginnings. I have decided that 2010 is my year. It is time to finally do ALL the stuff I’ve been meaning to do.
I am a walking contradiction. I can organize an event for 500 people, I can hold my own in just about any debate, and I can sell just about anything or anyone. When it comes to taking care of and organizing ME, I fail miserably.
I don’t pretend to know the root of this problem but I know I can do something about it. Not to sound cliché, but I have decided to do at least one uncomfortable, terrifying, or intimidating thing every week this year.
It’s January 18th and here’s my 2010 thus far:
• I’m MOVING in two weeks!!! I never thought I’d give up my wonderfully warm, birds-nest of an apartment unless I actually bought my dream house. Apparently, I was wrong! This perfect cottage rental fell into my lap about a month ago. It is much larger than my current abode, so I decided to get a roommate. This is scary as I’ve lived alone for 2 years! She is a dear friend though and I think that we will be a good fit. From here on out, I will refer to my roommate as EG or Evil Genius. She’s actually not evil at all, but incredibly clever. Oh, and I should mention that our house has a lake view from every window. I love lake views. This is a poor quality photo but here's a preview (and EG).
• I responded to an e-mail written by a person who has deeply offended me in an attempt to make peace.
• I wrote my dear, 18-year-old niece a letter telling her she’s beautiful and gave her 5 things to remember if she ever doubts it again.
• I resigned from my position with a non-profit I’ve volunteered with for the past 4 years. Again, I’m terrible at dealing with conflict when it comes to ME. But there were many problems and it was no longer a good place for me to be.
• I took the first step in starting a series of salon style art shows.
• I stood up to my boss.
• I worked hard on a certain project at work and saw a HUGE rewarding payoff.
• I made a decision that I’ve struggled with for the last year. I am a Christian and have been very unhappy in my current place of worship. It is a long and very involved story, but I was raised that you don’t leave a church just because you aren’t happy. There has to be a REAL reason to move on. After some advice from a dear friend’s mom, I made the decision earlier yesterday to start attending a different church. I can’t even describe the relief I feel!
What’s ahead?
• Pay down my credit cards and negotiate back down to the interest rates I had BEFORE the economy crashed.
• Save more money.
• Make a decision on some investments that have been pending for quite some time.
• Research and possibly join the DAR. I have confirmation that I am eligible, but would need to track down the family Bible. Does anyone know anything about DAR chapters in the south (especially Florida)? Any advice on becoming a member? How will this benefit me in the long run and what opportunities will there be for me to give back?
• Research PR Masters Programs.
• Fill out an application to be on The Bachelor or Bachelorette. DISCLAIMER—I am happily single and I think that the “I JUST WANT TO FIND TRUE LOVE” statements on the show are RIDICULOUS. I think it would be SO fun and endlessly entertaining to be on the show or at least apply. What can I say, I get bored easily. ;-)
• Be a better employee.
• New culinary accomplishments. I was making éclairs at age 11, so I can only go up from here!
• Ok and yes, you’ve been waiting for it!! I WILL make more regular posts on this blog. Or else!

TT-My apartment
November 8th-
As a 28 yr old single career woman, I have a luxury afforded to few! LITTLE RESPONSIBILITY! Sure I have the every day pressures of my job and of course there are bills to pay, but when I lay my head down at night, I'm sleeping in my adorable 450 square foot apartment. It is decorated to the hilt with things I LOVE, sits in a great Florida Stars Hollow neighborhood, and is almost the best deal on the planet (financially speaking).
Today's TT-I am thankful to have a roof over my head, I'm thankful to have a comfortable and warm space that's the perfect size for little me, and I'm thankful that I'm surrounded with beautiful things.
My camera is in the shop, but here's quick camera phone shot of one of my latest purchases- it's an adorably tiny secretary desk. The size and style is so perfect, it might as well have been made for my apartment. Oh-- and the chair?? It forms into a step ladder! Talk about practical and space saving!

Chronic disease, bloodshed, horrific natural disasters, severe poverty, famine, unsanitary water sources, restrictive population controls, and societal devaluation of female children, have all contributed to this global tragedy of monumental proportions.
In an effort to intervene, Something I Can Do is raising funds to build a children’s home through World Orphans by selling wall calendars for 2010. The small act of purchasing a calendar may not be monumental in and of itself, but combined with the efforts of others, it can make all the difference in the world in the lives of hundreds, or even thousands, of children who thought they had no hope.

A dear friend, has single-handedly formed a non-profit organization called, "Something I Can Do". My dear, sweet, tiny, friend has printed 5,000 calendars and is determined to sell them all ($15.00 each) in order to build a home for orphans! This is a HUGE undertaking, but with every one's help, I know she will succeed.

TT-Friendships!
November 7th -I have been blessed with many friends in my 28 years. They’ve come in all shapes, sizes, genders, races, economic classes, and personalities. Today’s TT—I am grateful for all of these special relationships!
I think it’s time that I tell you about one friend in particular, as she’s been influential in the development of the AIH Blog. Many of you know my dear friend, kHm, as Queen Bee Swain.
QBS and I met in 2005 in a training class at our former place of employment. We were 2 girls from different backgrounds and different states. Our training class lasted 2 weeks and took place in a city far from our respective homes. We have not seen each other in 4 years!! Approximately 1 million e-mails and text messages later, we have been in contact just about every day in the past four years! Ours is a pen-pal friendship that has flourished and grown in ways I never imagined possible.
Our daily chats started as reminiscing and poking fun at class mates and sharing the outfit of the day but grew into sharing broken hearts, praying for family members and friends during hard times, celebrating new love interests, encouraging each other in new ventures, and much more!
All friends share special traditions and activities—stuff they enjoy doing together! Long distance friendships are no different. This holiday season, we are sharing some of our traditions with you! AIH’s TT “Thanksgiving Thoughts” and QBS’s TTOD “Thanksgiving Thought of the Day” is something we’ve done for two years. In the middle of our hectic and stressful days at work, we take the time to remind each other that there are HUGE reasons to be thankful for all the blessings in our lives!
I look forward to sharing more of our traditions and hope they brighten your day as much as they do ours!

Thanksgiving Thoughts
Hello hello!
I'm back, it has been forever, but I wanted to post things I'm thankful for every day this November. I promise I'll be better about checking in and posts- so many great things up my sleeve!
To-date for November, what I'm thankful for:
November 1st—I am thankful for my paycheck!
November 2nd—I am thankful I get to see my family on every holiday (and that I can still afford the traveling costs!)
November 3rd—I am thankful for the opportunity to give of my time and talents to help friends. It seems as though it comes back around!
November 4th—I am thankful for forgiveness.

Why do I love Lucy?

Meet Lucy Party Bird. You should know that AIH is an amateur art connoisseur. Lucy is my current favorite folk art piece. She hangs in my kitchen right next to my pink and blue flowery Pottery Barn curtains. I met Lucy at Mayfaire 09 and it was LOVE at first sight. I sincerely feel that you can't look at her without becoming instantly happy. Be sure to check out the artist! Kelley Bentley Ash is truly an amazing woman with an amazing story and talent!

Florida Stars Hollow
For the last 10 years, I have lived in a small town in the heart of Central Florida.
I think I've only come to fully appreciate my little town, and all it has to offer, in the last five years or so. Any Gilmore Girls fans out there will know exactly what I mean when I refer to my town as the “Florida Stars Hollow.”
In the future, I plan on writing a lot more about FSH, but for now, I just want to give you a quick snap shot.
-One that is fully immersed in FSH can walk down the street on any given day and say, "hi" to at least 10 people that they know.
-We have an honest to God town troubadour that plays guitar on the street corner.
-Common sights that can be seen around town include but are not limited to:children on unicycles, confederate flags, trucks with steel balls hanging from the hitch, ladies who lunch, dancing geese, cranky swans, super-fit jogging women pushing baby strollers containing triplets, street dances, floating art parties, and much more!
And finally, if I could choose just one picture to give you a glimpse of my town, it would be this one because in FSH, you should be surprised at nothing.
(I took this pic as I was driving home from work one day. This mini-van was parked on a downtown street and it appeared that a soccer mom was running errands as a kid in a t-shirt and sweat band was sitting in the second seat waiting for her.)
And in case you still can’t tell what you’re looking at, yes, that is a miniature horse.

Introducing …Amazing in Heels!
Two confessions before we get started--
First, Amazing in Heels IS actually, yours truly.
Second, I should tell you that this is not a name I came by easily as it's a talent I've been honing for years.
I was first christened "AIH" in 2006 when I hiked up the Royal Mile in Edinburgh in 3-inch, stiletto sandals. It wasn't my intention to hike in heels, but my Scottish best friend told to "dress up" as we were going to "the big city." To me, dress up = 3-inch stilettos. Duh.
